D of E Gold Award Practise and Qualifying Expeditions

If you have missed your D of E practice or qualifying expedition, through illness, holiday, trip or exam clashes, then Badger Adventures will be running OPEN expeditions on the dates shown. Badger Adventures can cater for groups or individuals.

Location

The practice expeditions will be delivered in either the Lake District or Yorkshire Dales, in some of the countries most beautiful scenery. Qualifying will be in the Snowdon area.

There are good public transport links, rail links to Penrith, and then the bus services to Keswick.

Itinerary For Practise Expedition

Day Trek Description
1 Arrive at the Bunkhouse/YHA – A full kit check/food check when you arrive. If you have forgotten anything, then there will be time to pop into Keswick to find a replacement. (nb. You need to arrive with all your food for the expedition)
2 Walk out on the hills for a skills brush up, and to become fully acquainted with Badger Adventure lost, late and emergency procedures.
3 Walking out for the first day with your instructor, for a full day of Navigation and Training, with full rucksacks in the first campsite. Tent and stove demonstrations and then cook and eat your dinner and settle down for the night
4/5/6 At the end of the expedition walk back into Keswick, clean and hand group kit back in, then a debrief and then a well-earned rest in the YHA/Bunkhouse./ or travel home (nb finish after hand in and debrief will be around 16.00hrs ish, please make sure that all your public transport links are available if you are leaving straight after the expedition.)

Itinary for Qualifying Expedition

Day Trek Description
1 Arrive at the Bunkhouse/YHA – A full kit check/food check when you arrive. If you have forgotten anything, then there will be time to pop into Keswick to find a replacement. (nb. You need to arrive with all your food for the expedition)
2 Walk out on the hills for a skills brush up, and to become fully acquainted with Badger Adventure emergency procedures. Then back to the YHA for lunch and to plan the routes to be submitted to the board.
3/4/5/6 The participants will execute their routes that they have planned, with the instructor remotely supervising the groups.
At the end of the expedition walk back into Keswick, clean and hand group kit back in, then a debrief and then a well-earned rest in the YHA/Bunkhouse./ or travel home (nb finish after hand in and debrief will be around 16.00hrs ish, please make sure that all your public transport links are available if you are leaving straight after the expedition.)

Whats included?

  • 2 Nights acommadation in a bunkhouse/ YHA at the beginning
  • Camping fees
  • Group Equipment (tents, group shelters, stoves and gas,maps, first aid kits, wild no.2 kits)
  • Quality supervisors and accredited assessors (all have Mountain Leader and First Aid qualifications)
  • Green forms and documentation submitted

Not included

  • Transport to the area
  • Accommadation when you finish the expedition
  • Food in the bunkhouse/ YHA (food can be bought at the YHA restaurant, there is a communual kitchen to cook your own, or Keswick is full of restaurants to get takeaway.)
  • Food for the duration of the expedition
  • Your personal equipment
